WHO WE ARE and WHAT WE MAKE
THE CHAIN PRESS specializes in LETTERPRESS, an antiquarian method of relief printing where paper is pressed onto inked type or plates to create an impression. Everything we produce is printed by hand, one piece at a time, on a mid-century Vandercook cylinder press at our atelier and printshop. We place emphasis on beautiful design and typography, creative collaboration with clients, makers, and brands, and sustainability above all in our printing practices. We work with tree-free and small-batch paper, vintage wood and metal type, and reusable photopolymer plates.
We believe there is power in print, and great importance in ensuring the handmade and the personal a place in our busy lives. Nothing rivals the tactile beauty of letterpress, and we are committed to keeping this centuries-old craft alive through the creation of functional art and an investment in offline correspondence to be treasured, kept, and handed down.
